Nevada County Concert Band's Pioneer Park Picnic Pops concert series continues at 5 p.m. Sunday with the second annual "Salute to Sousa" concert.

To honor prolific composer and conductor John Philip Sousa, the band will play his marches, a waltz, an operetta and a suite.

Conductor is Patti Carter.

Assistant conductor Cheryl Baker will provide vocals for a Sousa waltz, "I've Made My Plans for Summer," a light song about a young woman and her suitor who meet at an amusement park.

Some of the well-known marches Sunday will be "The Washington Post March," "The Thunderer," "Semper Fidelis" and "Stars and Stripes Forever."

To acknowledge the bugle's role in the history of military march music, an audience member will win a free bugle and a lesson. Balloons will be given to children.

Sunday's concert is dedicated to longtime band member Everett Currier, who died July 14.

The free concert is at Pioneer Park's band shell in Nevada City. Donations are accepted.

Bring picnic meals, lawn chairs and blankets. For more information, call 477-4787.
