Sunday's Christmas concert by the Nevada County Concert Band is more of a team effort this year.
Musicians and singers from First Baptist Church of Grass Valley will participate, including church hand-bell ringers "Bells of Praise" and "Worship Bells," congregational organist Linda Okay and pianist Karen Schwartzkopf.
The holiday concert covers modern, traditional and classic songs.
"It's something different. We live in a diverse community. If you want people to come and enjoy the concert, you have to have something for everybody," conductor Patti Carter said.
Brass quartets and a woodwind trio will perform traditional Christmas carols. Becky Siemers on flute and Jerry Foote and Lucy Shram on oboe will present "Carol of the Bells, a Ukrainian Carol." Chuck Cavanaugh, Frank Doting, Tom Larsen and Ike Geddings will play a low brass quartet rendition of "The First Noel" with tubas and euphoniums. Joe Siemers, Ken Carter and Don Baggett will join the conductor in a brass quartet of trumpets and trombones for the oldie-but-goodie "Jingle Bells."
Favorites such as "Frosty the Snowman," "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" will be heard in a medley.
"Bugler's Holiday" will feature cornet players Joe Siemers, Mike Bankston and John Smiley.
Classics include Tschai-kovsky's "Marche from the Nutcracker Suite" and Wagner's "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" from the opera "Lohengrin." For the finale, the audience will join the choir in Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" from "The Messiah."
The 2 p.m. concert is at the First Baptist Church on Ridge Road in Grass Valley.
Admission is free but donations are accepted to cover concert costs incurred by the nonprofit concert band.
