The Nevada County Concert Band's annual holiday concert Sunday in Grass Valley will cover all bases with its selection of Christmas carols and folk tunes.

"This will definitely not be a concert of just standard holiday and wintertime music. I wanted to broaden our horizons so I selected tunes that had added flare from other cultures around the world," said conductor Cheryl Baker.

An international flare will be achieved with "African Bell Carol," "Brazilian Sleigh Bells," "A German Christmas" and "Festive Sounds of Hanukah."

Medley pieces will include familiar tunes such as "Frosty the Snowman," "Joy to the World," "Hark the Herald," "Good King Wenceslas" and "Jingle Bell Rock."

The band will also present classics including "Greensleeves" and "We Three Kings." For a touch of humor, Baker has selected "Lighter Side of Christmas," "The Thirteen Days of Christmas" and "Parade of the Bumbling Wooden Soldiers."

"We want to start the holiday music season, not wrap it up. This event will really get the audience into the spirit," Baker added.

Sunday's 2:30 p.m. concert is at the First Baptist Church, 1866 Ridge Road. Admission is free but donations will be accepted for the nonprofit music organization.

Call 477-4787 or visit the Web site at http://www.nccb.org for more details about the annual concert.
