Concert band goes classical

12:01 a.m. PT Apr 28, 2005

Cheryl Baker will lead the Nevada County Concert Band in a free classical concert Sunday.

"This concert is our first this season, and we want to get everyone interested. I plan to preview our summer Pops Concert repertoire," Baker says, "so the program has a unique blend of selections."

The selected program includes the well-known favorites "It Had to be You," love theme from "Romeo & Juliet," "Sweet Georgia Brown," and Jerome Kern's "All the Things You Are." Medleys include John Williams' "Jurassic Park," and Broadway favorite "Fiddler on the Roof." "The Homefront" honors musical memories from World War II such as "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree."

The Nevada County Concert Band has been presenting free concerts for our community for more than three decades. Every year they play at the 4th of July parade, Constitution Day Parade, and the Nevada County Fair.

The band is a non-profit organization made up of volunteer non-professional musicians of all ages, all residents of the community.
