The annual Winter Concert of the Nevada County Concert Band, made up of 40 local musicians, features such classics as Handel's "Water Music Suite" and such contemporary pieces as "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

As a special treat, this concert will include the band's premiere musicians in a brass ensemble, flute trio, trombone quartet, woodwind quartet, tuba quartet, saxophone sextet and a clarinet trio. Each ensemble has selected music to highlight their particular instruments.

Director Cheryl Baker said, "I really wanted to show how our musicians, although all volunteer, play at a very high level. With the small ensemble presentations, they have the opportunity to 'show off' their talent!" Peppered amongst the small ensemble presentations will be some Christmas medleys.

The Winter Concert is on Sunday, Dec. 3, at the First Baptist Church on Ridge Road, across from the high school, at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free; donations are welcome, and refreshments will be served.
