Final concert in Picnic & Pops series

A sign that summer is starting to wind down is the last concert in The Nevada County Concert Band's summer Picnic & Pops series. The concert, "Where the Wild Things Are," takes place Sunday, Aug. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pioneer Park in Nevada City.

The 50-member band will play "A Circus Bee," "Muppet's Greatest Hits," a selection from "Carnival of the Animals," "Tuba Tiger Rag" and a medley from "The Sound of Music." Also featured are a trumpet/euphonium duet and the ensemble, QuintEssential Brass.

The concert is free with donations accepted. Go online at www.nccb.org for more information; also nccband@yahoo.com and (530) 272-6228.

Performance to aid flooded-out artist

Guitar wizard Scott Huckabay got flooded out, losing most of his guitars and musical material. Thus, Sacred Music Events in Auburn is helping out by producing a concert that will be performed by, and benefit, Huckabay.

Part psychedelic, part avant-garde, Huckabay's music incorporates lush modal voicing, two-hand tapping, harmonics, helixing rhythms, percussive pounding, ankle-bell foot percussion, E-bow and lots of other effects-soaked string ambiance.

He has performed with some top notch artists - Chicago, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Bonnie Raitt, Albert Lee, Buffy Saint-Marie and Jackson Browne, to name a few.

The concert takes place Friday, Aug. 24, at AHmbiance, 884 Lincoln Way (No. 30, upstairs) in downtown Auburn at 7:30 p.m. A donation of $15 to $25 is requested at the door. For more information, visit www.sacredmusicevents.com or call (530) 613-1865.
