It's a parade!

The 20th anniversary of the marching presidents has been honored with a proclamation by Nevada City's mayor: that Sept. 9, 2007, is Marching Presidents of Nevada City Day in Nevada City. It is expected that the grand marshal, Melvyn B. Stein, will stand taller and the presidents and their wives will march down Broad Street more proudly than ever before.

The marching presidents are part of the annual Nevada City Constitution Day Parade, which was started in 1967. The parade totals about 80 entries, including seven marching bands and the Merry Widows, a scholarship award society. It begins at the top of Broad Street in downtown Nevada City at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Pre-parade activities start with a free concert by the Nevada County Concert Band at 12:30 p.m., followed by a re-enactment of the signing of the U.S. Constitution at 1:30 p.m.

Contact the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce at (530) 265-2692 or online at www.nevadacitychamber.com for more information.
